UAE’s Omar Abdulrahman, Iraq’s Hammadi Ahmed Aldeeaa and China’s Wu Lei were nominated in the men’s category, while Australia dominated the female category.

Foord and de Vanna are up for nomination alongside China’s Tan Ruyin.

Sydney FC winger Foord was part of the Matildas squad which qualified for the 2016 Rio Olympics, scoring in the 2-2 draw with Germany.

The 21-year-old holds the record as the youngest ever Australian to play for the Matildas at a World Cup, having played in Germany at the age of 16 years and 230 days.

She was subsequently named the first ever Best Young Footballer at the tournament. Foord was part of the Matildas squad at the Olympic Games in Rio.

Matildas’ captain Lisa de Vanna played in the Olympics for the second time this year, having competed at the 2004 Athens Olympics where Australia finished fifth.

De Vanna also scored during the Rio tournament, hitting the opener in the 6-1 win over Zimbabwe.

The 31-year-old also netted in the W-League Grand Final as Melbourne City lifted the title.
