Kerr’s recent goal scoring form for club and country has made the Matildas attacker one of the hottest sports star in Australia at the moment.

The silky skilled striker showed her class against Brazil in-front of a historic-sell out at Penrith stadium at the weekend when her looping header showed why she’s been receiving individual accolades.

Following on from being shortlisted for the 2017 FIFA Women’s Player of the Year, last night Kerr took out the award for PFA Women's Footballer of the Year in Newcastle.

However, the 25-year-old feels several of her Matildas teammates could have been worthy recipients as well.

“It’s a massive honour getting nominated by your peers,” said Kerr speaking exclusively to FourFourTwo.

“That’s a huge honour, because that’s the most important honour for me, knowing that your peers think highly of you and support you.

“There could have been five, six, seven or even eight girls that could’ve won that award last night.

“Obviously to be mentioned in the same sentence as Carli Llyod, Jodi Taylor in the FIFA Player of the Year award is a massive honour as well and something I’m still pinching myself about.”

In the lead-up to the Matildas match at the weekend, Kerr was the pin-up girl with her image making the front page of a national newspaper.

On the field Australia and Kerr didn’t disappoint, producing a thrilling display in a 2-1 win with Kerr scoring the matchwinner and the 54 capped Matilda said she loved the occasion.

“It’s a massive honour to be part of that first sell-out crowd”, she said. “It was just a huge moment for the girls and in general for football in Australia.

“It meant everything to have the Australian public behind us. We finally feel that we are catching the attention of young girls and boys and football fans all around Australia.

“It was obviously nice to score and help the team out. At the time it put us up 2-0 and it gave us that extra little bit of a buffer.

“But in this team we don’t really care who scores the goals, it’s just about getting those three points and winning the game and that was the most important thing that night.”

Ahead of tomorrow night’s match in Newcastle, Kerr said the Matildas were focused on following up the weekend’s result with another win against Brazil.

“Hopefully we can back it up,” she said.

“We are trying to be a consistent team and beat the top teams in the world consistently.

“Saturday was good but our focus is tomorrow night now and hopefully another big crowd comes out.

“We need to win and the expectation is to win and play good football again.”
