The Matildas will cap off a stellar year by taking on China in two friendlies on November 22 in Melbourne and November 26 at Geelong’s Kardinia Park.

Australia recently took on Brazil in back-to-back friendly wins in Penrith and Newcastle which both attracted over 15,000 people to the grounds.

And ‘Mini’ Gorry believes Melbourne can pack out AAMI Park despite it being on a Wednesday night.

“I’m sure Melbourne can do it, everyone loves sport there and everyone loves to support women’s sport, I couldn’t think of a better city to host it,” The Brisbane Roar star told FourFourTwo.

“Having the games in Sydney and Newcastle a couple of months ago and to see everyone walk out in the green and gold, I’ll never forget singing the national anthem with 16,000 people.

“It’s an experience I’ll never forget and cherish for the rest of my life. To be in Melbourne and see the crowd they could potentially get would be pretty amazing.”

Catley and Gorry battling with the Brazilians in Sydney

Melbourne-born Catley has seen big crowds donning the green and gold overseas and playing club football in America’s National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL).

When the upcoming China friendlies were announced in September, coach Alen Stajcic felt a crowd of 25,000 was feasible.

And the Melbourne City captain Catley was hopeful there would not be a green seat in sight.

“I am a really biased Melburnian so I would love to get a bigger crowd than what we got in Sydney and there is no better atmosphere than AAMI Park, it’s incredible,” Catley told FourFourTwo.

“25,000 would be awesome. I’ve watched plenty of football there and to think I could be playing there for my country is a dream come true.”

Gorry also declared this era was the best time to be a female athlete.

“Women’s sport just growing so rapidly, it’s getting so much support now and everyone is so interested in our journey,” Gorry said.

“I think that’s the most exciting thing, the personalities in our team really draws people in as well.

“People can learn more about us and have seen how far we’ve come in the last few years. They can be only excited about what the future holds for us and hopefully we put on a good show in Melbourne.”
