Victorian Minister for Sport, John Eren, Matildas coach Alen Stajcic and star striker Lisa De Vanna will make a major announcement in regards to the women's national team in Melbourne on Wednesday.

It is expected that the Victorian capital will host a Matildas game in one of the next two international windows. 

The next opportunity for the Matildas to play in Australia is the international window between October 16-24, a week before the start of the W-League season. 

November 20-28 also acts as another opportunity for the Matildas to play around Australia.

The last time Melbourne hosted a Matildas game was in 2016, when they faced New Zealand at Etihad Stadium as a curtain raiser for the Socceroos v Greece.

Over 31,000 fans turned out for the Matildas recent two-game friendly series with Brazil in Penrith and Newcastle this past week. 

It is unsure where the Matildas game in Melbourne will be played, with AAMI Park or Lakeside Stadium the likely venues.
