MANCHESTER City midfielder Samir Nasri believes he has grown up over recent months and is ready to shine under Manuel Pellegrini.
The France international scored just two goals in 27 Premier League appearances last season.
And the 26-year-old has admitted he was not at his best throughout 2012-13 and needs to improve this time around.
"I have matured a great deal," Nari told The Sun. "I lost my way a bit last season, but I have found myself once again."
Nasri was a second-half substitute for City in their 4-0 win over Newcastle United on Monday, scoring 13 minutes after replacing Sergio Aguero just after the hour mark.
While the formner Arsenal man will face plenty of competition for a place this season after the additions of Jesus Navas and Fernandinho, he is relishing the challenge of fighting for a starting berth under new boss Pellegrini.
"The competition for places at City doesn't frighten me, it makes me better," he added.
"I'm full of desire. I want to go to the World Cup and show everyone the real Samir Nasri.
"I've trained with this in mind. I'm much sharper and I feel better."
