Roar open their A-League sason at home against Central Coast Mariners this weekend.

Mauk believes his side will need to keep an keen eye on his former Melbourne City teammate McCormack, and is unconcerned if Usain Bolt plays for the Mariners.

"We can't give away any free kicks (close to goal)," he said.

"Ross' very dangerous; we'll have to be tight with him. Bolt's just another piece of the puzzle, whether he plays or not.

"They've got some great signings in Tommy Oar and Ross McCormack - I think that's probably more of the focus.

"They're quite good footballers and Usain Bolt's, I guess, a good thing for the news and media and everything."

Mauk joined Brisbane on a four-year deal from Dutch club NEC in May.

The 23-year-old revealed that Roar coach John Aloisi wants him to get forward and score more goals this season.

"He said I should be hitting quite a few more in," he said.

"So I've worked on getting in the right positions and becoming a more complete player."
