Maxwell was unveiled as Barca's first summer signing today after completing his move from Inter Milan.

The 27-year-old has put pen to paper on a four-year deal, with an option for a further season, and has vowed to do as much as possible to help Barca defend their treble crown.

"It's one of the happiest days of my life," said Maxwell. "I'm very pleased and very happy.

"I have joined one of the strongest squads in Europe and I hope to be able to help achieve the maximum in all the competitions.

"It's one of the dreams of my life, a dream that I have had for a long time.

"Since the moment I was given the possibility to come, I have shown myself open to it and said so to my agent who closed the deal."

The Brazilian defender could soon be joined at the Nou Camp by former team-mate Zlatan Ibrahimovic who is on the verge of securing a move from Inter Milan.

And Maxwell would be delighted to continue in the same team as the Sweden striker, who he also spent three seasons with at Ajax.

"Ibrahimovic is a great player and a great person," he said. "We are friends.

"It is a very big coincidence that our CVs are so similar.

"I said goodbye to him like all my team-mates.

"Nevertheless, other people have to decide his future and I can't express an opinion on it."
