The 25-year-old Australian right-back, who has been monitored by Socceroos selectors in the past, had been offered a new deal by Accies but was non-committal on his future in Scotland.

It is understood McClenahan has been weighing up interest from elsewhere, forcing Hamilton to make a decision on him which has been sealed after they signed right-back Jack Ross from St Mirren this week.

Accies boss Billy Reid told the club's website: "We offered a contract to Trent and he hadn't accepted it so we felt that it was time to move on.

"Trent had done really well for me over the last two seasons but we couldn't give him any longer.

"And with Jack Ross available - and other SPL clubs interested in him - we had to act quickly."

Ex-West Ham junior McClenahan, who got married during this off-season, made over 50 appearances for Hamilton during his two-year stay at New Douglas Park.
