There's been media speculation since the World Cup that the AZ Alkmaar Aussie was on his way to the Scottish champions.

But while McCoist would be excited to see Holman, 26, at Ibrox, he said no deal has yet been signed.

"He's certainly a player I like and I know Walter [Smith] likes.

"I saw him a couple of times at the World Cup and he's somebody who's impressed me and he took his goals well," said McCoist.

Holman scored twice at the World Cup against Serbia and Ghana. He also scored the winning goal against New Zealand in a pre-World Cup friendly.

"I won't lie to you, he's a player who excites me," added McCoist. "But there's been no contact at all between the clubs with a view to getting him over."

The former Rangers and Scotland striker, who's expected to take over coaching Rangers from Walter Smith after this upcoming season, also talked up retiring Socceroo Craig Moore's coaching ambitions.

"It'd be a natural progression for him. He's a big thinker about the game and knowledgeable," said McCoist of his former Rangers teammate.
