McCormack came off the bench after the break and very nearly won the game with a chip over goalkeeper Jack Duncan.

But a possible fairytale ending to his City stint was denied by Steven Ugarkovic who pulled off a stunning goal line clearance in the 94th minute.

McCormack was one of the last ones out of the change room and was seen hugging City staff members post-match.

Leaving the grounds he told FourFourTwo: “As it stands, yes (it is my last game), I don't know what's going to happen.”

The 31-year-old, who was signed as an injury replacement for striker Bruno Fornaroli before the start of this season, has become a fan favourite and sits second on the golden boot tally with 14 goals in 17 games.

City confirmed McCormack will fly out tomorrow and a report the Herald Sun said the striker will speak with Villa representatives about his future.

Villa declined to comment on the striker’s immediate future. According to reports three American MLS clubs - Colorado Rapids, LA Galaxy and Orlando City are interested in signing the 31-year-old.

A move to another club English club is unlikely due to FIFA’s ‘three club’ rule which states a player cannot play for more than two clubs in one season and McCormack featured in two games for Villa before joining City.

But the rule means an MLS move possible as the regular season is in a different timeframe and will start in March.
