The Scottish recruit’s 69th minute free-kick was the difference as City overcame an impressive Wellington side at AAMI Park.

“They had two in the wall,” McCormack told Fox Sports.

“Scotty Jamieson just said ‘back yourself and just hit it’.

“I hit it as hard as I could towards the far side and thankfully it went in.”

McCormack conceded City weren’t happy with their performance, but said they’d take the points and move on.

“They had the majority of possession,” he said.

“Granted it wasn’t a game full of many chances.

“They were definitely in the game but thankfully we got the three points and we can move on.”

He added: “We weren’t happy at half-time obviously. First half we didn’t play well, second half we didn’t play either mind you.

“They seemed to have two or three yards most of the first-half.

“Second-half it was much of the game to be honest but you have games like that, it’s a long season, we’ll take it and move on.”

City, who are top of the table with three wins from three games, are next in action away to Adelaide United on Saturday night.
