The Rangers midfielder helped Alex McLeish's side to a 3-1 win over Lithuania at Hampden Park on Saturday which leaves Group B in the balance.

Scotland are one point behind leaders France, whom they beat earlier in the group thanks to a Gary Caldwell goal, and one point ahead of World Cup holders Italy.

Asked if he had ever came up against a better side in his career, the former Motherwell and Wigan player said: "I don't know, it's a good question.

"Even the players they have got on the bench are more than capable of coming on and changing the game so, to answer your question, probably not.

"We know it's going to be hard, everybody knows that. All the pressure is on them, not us, and everybody should go and enjoy it.

"If we don't win it's not the end of the world but it's obviously going to be very tough.

"But there is still going to be ups and downs, that's just football but as long as we keep going, and doing what we've been doing, then we will be there and thereabouts."

McCulloch, 29, added: "To get a point would be massive for us but we are just trying to get closer and closer to the finals and we are not expecting to win.

"We are quietly confident, organised and ready to cause an upset.

"We have to be excited and playing against the best, you can only get better yourself.

"As the games go on we start to meet up more and we start to know everyone's strength.

"We are really close to each other as a group and it's standing us in good stead.

"We have no superstars like the French but we have a togetherness, great morale and we are a hard-working team."
