The build up to the Clydesdale Bank Premier League clash had been dominated by an altercation between McGeady and manager Gordon Strachan.

The row resulted in the winger being fined and suspended from first-team activities for a fortnight, missing the visit to the Falkirk Stadium.

But McDonald, who scored Celtic's third goal, told Setanta Sports: "Whatever is happening behind closed doors and between other people isn't really a concern to the rest of us.

"We need to get on with it, get on the training park and play our football as usual.

"We just need to worry about what's at hand and that's winning games and getting points on the board."

McDonald sealed the win in injury-time following goals from Georgios Samaras and Koki Mizuno and has now netted in his last seven games against the Bairns.

He added: "I guess I do have a couple of favourite teams.

"I didn't want to say anything before the game about it but I knew myself. I like coming here and I have a good record.

"I didn't think it was going to happen today and I was a bit frustrated in the first half when I missed a couple of chances."

It was also the Australian striker's first goal in eight games but he added: "I've not been concerned and neither has the manager.

"The goals will come again. If I keep putting in performances like that, hopefully they will.

"Now that we've had a run of games, the partnership between myself and Sammy (Samaras) is really starting to work now."

The clash between Strachan and McGeady has dominated the news all week and the Celtic boss praised his players for focusing on the job at hand.

He told Setanta Sports: "Their spirit can never be in question. They are a good bunch of lads and we do well as a group together.

"They don't have to answer to anybody, especially people who have opinions and don't know exactly what is going on.

"If you don't know what's going on, I find it very hard for people to have an opinion.

"It's very strange that everyone knows what goes on in our dressing room without actually being there."

Strachan's side was depleted through injury and illness for the visit to Falkirk and he admitted he had no idea who would be available for next Saturday's Old Firm derby.

He added: "We are missing about eight or nine. We don't know.

"We had a team picked yesterday and two disappeared from that team.

"It's credit to the lads because we didn't have too much preparation to put the side together and their spirit was fantastic today."

Falkirk manager John Hughes is renowned for his team's attractive style of football, but he admits the Bairns may be forced to change their system to ensure SPL survival.

The defeat to Celtic leaves the Bairns joint bottom of the table with Motherwell, Inverness and Hamilton.

Hughes told Setanta Sports: "My job is to keep the team in the SPL and we are in a dogfight.

"We will maybe have to look at changing the system to be harder to beat.

"It would be going against my principles but sometimes you have to take a step back and try to get a few results.

"Once you get a few results you can look at getting the ball down and playing football.

"I think I've attracted a lot of players to this club because of the style of play and I've got players in that dressing room who want to play football.

"My boys gave me absolutely everything today but there are one or two who are still hiding and, if one hides, we can't play that style of play."
