The Australia forward, who sat out Sunday's 4-2 home loss to Rangers through injury, insists Gordon Strachan's players are strong enough to bounce back and claim a fourth successive SPL crown.

"To say the league is over after four weeks is almost laughable but I've heard a few people suggest it," McDonald told the Daily Record.

"It's been suggested that our signings haven't been that good but that's ridiculous with four games in.

"Let's allow the season to take place before judgements are made."

As a Celtic fan himself, McDonald can appreciate that supporters must be concerned about the nature of Sunday's defeat.

He believes players feel the disappointment even more keenly and revealed how eager the squad are to atone for the result.

McDonald said: "Sunday was tough because the result was a big blow. You can argue about who feels it worse, the supporter or player, but I would say players take it harder.

"The fans make it known how they feel and they are entitled to that. We owe it to these people to put things right and start winning games again."
