SOCCEROO Scott McDonald kept up his fine recent form making it five goals in seven games as Middlesbrough defeated fellow promotion contenders Cardiff City 3-2 in England's Championship on Saturday.
The Australian striker has found his scoring touch in recent weeks after a less than prolific start to the season and now has six goals for the campaign in all competitions.
At 1-1 in the first half, McDonald had a good penalty shout turned down when he appeared to be brought down by Andrew Taylor from behind.
Boro trailed 2-1 at the break, before the Aussie nodded wide Barry Robson's cross.
However, McDonald wouldn't be denied on the hour mark when he converted from close range after Justin Hoyte's good work down the right flank.
On 76 minutes, Faris Haroun would get the winner for Boro who move up to third.
McDonald and fellow Aussie Rhys Williams both played full games in the win.
In England's Premier League, Tim Cahill had another disappointing game and was replaced early in the second-half as Everton drew 1-1 at home with Norwich City.
The Socceroo has now not scored for 363 days for his club and looks a pale shadow of the player which was in super form at the start of last season.
In Germany's Bundesliga, Nikita Rukavytsya was substituted early in Hertha Berlin's 1-1 draw at TSG 1899 Hoffenheim.
The Socceroo collided heavily with Hoffenheim defender Andreas Beck early in the clash and had to be replaced after 15 minutes.
In Scotland's Premier League, Aaron Mooy made his return from a long-term back injury as a 64th-minute substitute in St Mirren's 1-1 draw at Motherwell.
