The Mariners are bottom of the A-League ladder and are coming off a loss against Sydney FC. In two matches against the Phoenix already this season Central Coast have been defeated twice, a 2-0 and a 3-0 defeat.

Despite that McGing believes the Kiwi side, that sit just two points above the Mariners on the table, are vulnerable at home.

"We're just going to stick to our game plan against them," the centre back said.

"We adapt to each team so we've got a different game plan for this week. I think they're definitely there for the taking. The vibe's very good here. We made a few mistakes in the Sydney FC game and hopefully we can patch it up for the next game.

"The vibe's definitely good. We're hoping to go to New Zealand and get a result. We go into every game thinking we can win. Against Melbourne City and Sydney FC we always thought we could win every game we play.

"It's no different with Wellington, we go into the game expecting that we're going to get the three points."

The Mariners have conceded 31 goals so far this season, the highest in the competition. But McGing feels his side's defence, arguably the youngest in the A-League, is slowly getting better with experience.

"Definitely our defence has improved," he said.

"Obviously the last couple of weeks haven't been our best performance defensively but I feel as they each week we're improving as a defence. Each week we have to nulify the stupid mistakes at the back and go from there.

"When you're a young player you learn from each and every game you play. The more games we play as a young back four it's definitely going to improve us."
