PROMISING Socceroos striker Brent McGrath scored a double as Brondby defeated third tier club Elite 3000 4-0 in the Danish Landspokal on Wednesday.
The 20-year-old has been a regular starter in attack for Brondby this term but had only managed one goal coming into the match.
However, he looked likely to improve on that return from the start against Elite 3000, with McGrath spurning a handful of chances in the first-half.
The Sydney-born striker eventually broke through in the 49th minute after Dennis Rommedahl's pass sent him through to make the score 2-0.
McGrath grabbed Brondby's third in the 75th minute after a neat combination with Rommedahl and Osama Akharraz.
After the game, McGrath told the club's website: “Well, it's nice to have scored. It's been a while since I've scored two goals in a match, so I have taken some self-confidence and have proved that I can score goals."
He added: “The victory comes after a good team effort, where we worked hard and concentrated. We had everything to lose in this battle, so it was important to secure victory today.”
Elsewhere on Wednesday night, Tommy Oar scored as FC Utrecht were knocked out of the Dutch KNVB Beker on penalties by De Graafschap after a 1-1 draw.
In England's Carling Cup, Mark Schwarzer saved Frank Lampard's opening spotkick in the penalty shootout between Fulham and Chelsea after a 0-0 draw. But it ended in defeat for the Cottagers, who lost 4-3 on penalties.
