McKain has spent the past two seasons in Malaysia after arriving from Adelaide United in 2014. The central defender is returning to Brisbane to rejoin his young family.

McKain told FourFourTwo he is uncertain what the future holds at this stage.

"I've nothing locked in yet on the future," he said.

"I'm undecided, but to leave my family again is very unlikely. Once I'm back I'll have some chats with a few people that have shown interest. I'll wait and see."

McKain reached the 2015 Malaysian FA Cup final with Kelantan but the club has been beseiged by financial problems during his time there. The 34-year old admitted he has had his fill of off-field issues.

"There was continued drama at my club that I'm over," he said.

"But the main reason is being away from my family. I need to be with them now.

"Malaysia was a good experience. Not easy but that's part of the challenge. If my club was managed better it could have been much more enjoyable."

McKain made 16 appearances for Australia after making his international debut in 2004. The centre back played in the NSL with Brisbane Strikers before spending five years playing in Romania.

McKain returned home in 2008 to join A-League club Wellington Phoenix. He had a one-season stint with Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr in 2010 before switching to Adelaide United.
