Rangers revealed on Sunday they were interested in the Brisbane Roar midfielder and a deal could reportedly be completed as early as Tuesday.

But what could prove to be a career-defining transfer is not enough to distract the 28-year-old from Wednesday's friendly against Wales in Cardiff.

"I just had the opportunity to go up and have a look at the club and obviously it's a massive club and to have interest to go there is pretty special," McKay said after visiting Rangers.

"I've been in the A-League now for six years, looking at the opportunity to go there, nothing is sorted yet, just talking at the moment.

"It's an opportunity I've never had before. I've never played in Europe before and it's something that's always enticed me and to have that opportunity is great.

"We'll wait and see if things pan out into a move, but at the moment I'm really looking forward to this game on Wednesday."

The friendly with Wales is Australia coach Holger Osieck's final opportunity to run the rule over his charges before the 2014 World Cup qualifying campaign begins at home to Thailand next month.

"It's the last opportunity before the game on September 2 in Brisbane," McKay said. "It's for Holger to work on a few things and make sure we're right.

"We've got a strong squad here and we want to go out and win the game and keep our winning record afloat."

While McKay nears the biggest move of his career, Australia captain Lucas Neill remains without a club after leaving Galatasaray at the end of last season.

The 33-year-old has been linked with various teams, and hopes to secure a contract shortly after the Wales match.

"This week it's all about Australia," Neill said. "I'd imagine from Thursday, within the next couple of day after that Wales game, I'm pretty confident something will be sorted.

"It's part of a footballer's career sometimes. I've been in this situation before and you've got to stay mentally strong and be a little bit patient.

"Obviously I'd love to be well and truly focused, having my goals set and working towards them. I'm just rolling with the punches, it's been a difficult off season for everybody and transfers, not just myself.

"For me it's just about somewhere I know I'm going to fit, play a lot of games, look after my body and still being able to give my best for Australia."
