The Australian midfielder joined this season from Brisbane Roar but his progress has been hampered by a knee injury.

He knows competition for a place in Ally McCoist's plans is fierce but is determined to show the manager what he has to offer.

McKay said: "It's been frustrating but it doesn't always work out the way you want it.

"I picked up a slight injury that kept me out for about a week after the Old Firm game but I'm back now fully fit and ready to go.

"I started training again last week and I'm feeling fairly fit now and I got a reserve game in during the week so I'm happy to get 90 minutes under my belt before this Hibs game.

"The boys are great and they are really good players. I've enjoyed watching them play and now I want to be involved.

"They've been playing great and the joy for the manager is that there are so many people available at the moment.

"We had the reserve game the other day and we had first-team players on the bench in that game so that shows the depth that we've got this year.

"From all reports, in previous years we didn't have that so it's good for the manager. And for me, I'll fight hard.

"I'm not involved at the moment but I'll keep working hard on the training paddock and see what comes of it."

Victory over Hibernian tomorrow would allow Rangers to move 10 points clear at the summit of the Clydesdale Bank Premier League, ahead of Celtic's game against Hearts on Sunday.

McKay said: "It's massive. Obviously it's very early on in the season and everyone has been saying that but to open up that type of gap is important.

"The boys have worked hard to get where we are and we want to continue that run.

"People said at the start of the season that we weren't playing that well but we continued to get the points and that's the most important thing."

On Hibs, he added: "I hear they are a very strong side.

"I've followed the league for a while and I know they haven't had the best of starts to the season.

"But they have some great players and they got a good win in midweek so that will have their confidence up.

"We'll have to be on our game and I'm sure the boys will relish the opportunity to go 10 points clear."
