NEW Rangers signing Matt McKay has set his sights on a role in next week's Old Firm derby.
The Australian midfielder arrived in Scotland this week following his move from Brisbane Roar and could make his debut in tomorrow's Clydesdale Bank Premier League game at Dundee United.
Rangers then host Celtic in the first clash of the season between the Glasgow giants.
And, even if he is not given any game-time in that fixture, McKay is relishing the prospect of experiencing the white-hot atmosphere for the first time.
He said: "It's pretty early on in my career here but I've got all next week to impress and to fit in with the boys and understand what they are all about as well.
"To have that game in the second week that I'm here is going to be great, just to get that experience.
"Whatever minutes I play, or even if I'm just there, I can understand what it's all about and get ready for ones in the future."
McKay insists he is ready to be pitched into the action at Tannadice in tomorrow's lunchtime kick-off.
He added: "I've been in pre-season with Brisbane Roar for a while and I've been involved in international games so I'm fit.
"Whenever I'm needed by the manager, I'll be ready."
And the midfielder hopes his versatility will help boost his chances of forcing his way into Ally McCoist's plans.
McKay said: "I see myself as a central midfielder but I'm left-footed. I've played in a variety of roles for the national team.
"I can play left-midfield or left-back so that versatility helps in sides when an extra player is needed.
"I like to play and move. My game is a passing game and I like to get forward and make those deep runs."
