Newcaslte have had an unbeaten start to the A-League season following a 1-1 draw with Adelaide United and a 4-0 thrashing of Brisbane Roar.

In previous campaigns the Jets have struggled to find the back of the net, scoring just 28 last season, the lowest in the competition.

In comparison, they have managed four in two games with each coming from a different player.

McKinna, a former striker, has faith in Newcastle's two foreign finishers Morten Nordtsrand and Aleksandr Kokko to fire with the Scandanavian pair having scored a combined 277 goals throughout their professional careers.

"Morten's a clever player. He's a quiet guy and a very intelligent player," McKinna told FourFourTwo.

"When Nordstand came into the club [last season[ he wasn't really fit, but as the season went on I thought he was different class. In my opinion, the end of the season came too soon for him.

"Kokko as a person's great. His goal-scoring record - people say it's just the Finnish league - but it's hard to score goals anywhere. He's scored about 50-odd goals in 90-odd appearances, which is a fair record for anybody.

"He's backing himself, I wouldn't say he's cocky. He's very confident and wants to score goals. His goal-scoring form, I think he had scored nine in 15 in Finland before he came here, so he's on form. He's settled in.

"The two of them, Morten's obviously a real intelligent man. He's not a target man, he can play in behind, he can play up front. Morten's going to bring players into the game. He's clever and you need special players to win games and hopefully we've got two special ones."

With Andrew Nabbout and Andrew Hoole on the flanks, Wayne Brown and Devante Clut in midfield, along with Labinot Haliti off the bench, the Jets are finally blessed with genuine goal-scorers.

Newcastle has not had a recognised regular goal-poacher since Joel Griffiths retired in 2015.

"That's not being disrespectful, that's what it is," McKinna said.

"Nabbout's picked up some goals, Hoole's picked up some goals, Clut's picked up some goals, everybody's getting in on the act now where in the past they've probably relied on one player."
