Melbourne City has sacked assistant coach Mike Valkanis.
His sacking follows a review of the club’s football operations conducted by City’s Manchester-based football chief Brian Marwood.
Reports suggest there was tension between Valkanis and coach Warren Joyce just months after he was considered for the top job after replacing John van’t Schip as interim coach.
The pair were said have conflicting views on City’s playing style.
“Melbourne City FC and Michael Valkanis have today agreed the mutual termination of his contract, effective immediately,’’ City said in a statement.
“Valkanis joined Melbourne City FC in a June 2016 as senior assistant coach and was part of the coaching team that helped to win the FFA Cup in November 2016.
“In January 2017 he was appointed as Interim head coach and later head coach, holding this role for the remainder of the 2016/17 season.
“We would like to thank Michael for his contribution to our club and wish him and his family all the very best.”
Meanwhile, Socceroos legend Tim Cahill is not happy regarding his current role in the team.
