Melbourne City marquee Ritchie De Laet's long range effort and Bruno Fornaroli's first goal of the season was enough for City to down Wellington Phoenix 2-0 at home. It was a disappointing effort from Wellington with hardly any clear cut chances and their third match without a win.
Melbourne City
Eugene Galekovic - 6
Hardly anything for Galekovic to do this evening with Wellington failing to threaten.
Scott Jamieson - 5
Not fantastic on the ball with misplaced passes as well as struggling to control the ball on a few instances.
Harrison Delbridge - 6
Delbridge just had to worry about his passing until he clattered into Steven Taylor with a horrible tackle to earn himself a yellow card.
Bart Schenkeveld - 6.5
Schenkeveld was able to use his pace to break away from a Wellington corner but his passing in the middle third was poor and prevented City from having chances.
Ritchie De Laet - 7
SHOOOOOOOOT...

Brilliant technique to open the scoring slicing across the ball with power from Lachlan Wales' cut-back to the edge of the area. Neat link up play with Melbourne's line of midfielders opened space for deliveries on the right.
Riley Mcgree - 6
It took around half an hour but Mcgree finally began to penetrate the Wellington line stepping out of City's flat midfield. Great close control to keep hold of the ball before setting up Fornaroli.
Kearyn Baccus - 5
Holding onto the ball for too long before giving possession away with unthoughtful passes in the first half. With so many midfielders around him Baccus has to hold his position as opposed to his best position which is more akin to how Mcgree and Berenguer play.
Florin Berenguer - 5.5
Sloppy passing in midfield allowed Wellington to run at City's retreating backline. The Frenchman's follow up shot to Fornaroli's miss was cleared off the line.
Lachlan Wales - 6.5
Wales took advantage of Fenton's mishap, hit the byline before cutting back to De Laet who powered home the opening goal.
Bruno Fornaroli - 6
Just another @BFornaroli special! 🌵🍐🇺🇾 🎥 FOXFOOTBALL #MCYvWEL pic.twitter.com/rJkjjYl1of

It seems like it's too easy to deal with Bruno Fornaroli these days. The Uruguayan took an unecessary touch before fluffing a one-on-one with Filip Kurto. He finally turned on the style for his first goal of the season curling in a beauty from outside the box.
Nathaniel Atkinson - 5
On his first game back from the AFC U-19 Championships and it looks like it will take him a few more weeks to adjust. Substituted in the 51st minute.
SUBS
Dario Vidosic - 5
Vidosic didn't have much of an impact on the attacking side of City's play and once they hit their second he had little to do. Had a free-kick in stoppage time that grazed the top of the net.
Rostyn Griffiths - 5
Griffiths came on to settle down the play and see out the result.
Connor Metcalfe - N/A
Another player coming back from the AFC U-19 Championships Connor Metcalfe made his second appearance for the first team.
Wellington Phoenix
Filip Kurto - 5
Could hardly do anything as De Laet's bullet ripped the back of the net. A brilliant reaction save prevented De Laet from scoring another.

Dylan Fox - 4
Hardly inspiring defensive performance from Dylan Fox. The defender looked seriously reluctant to move forward considering Wellington were spending long periods of time on the back foot.
Andrew Durante - 5
Stopped a certain goal as Florin Berenguer slid a ball across goal but the sliding Durante prevented the Nix from falling two behind.
Steven Taylor - 5
Robust challenges were needed to break up City's monotone play and the Englishman delivered.
Thomas Doyle - 4
A through ball to Williams was all Doyle offered going forward in the second half while he was caught out at times when Berengeur found space in the right channel.
Mandi Sosa - 3
Mandi showed no hustle to close down the slow cut-back to De Laet on the edge of the area and is just as culpable for the goal as Fenton.
Mitch Nichols - 3
Wellington could hardly control the ball let alone pass it around which meant Nichols was running the entire match.
Louis Fenton - 4
Fenton didn't clean up the lofted ball in behind for Wales as the winger pulled it back to De Laet for 1-0.
Roy Krishna - 3
Krishna simply couldn't free the feet and even when he had the chance to run Schenkeveld kept up with the pacy Fijian.
Sarpreet Singh - 4
A silly foul pulling back the shirt of Scott Jamieson had him on thin ice for the rest of the game getting a yellow card in the 8th minute. Singh had little impact on Wellington's attacks this evening.
David Williams - 3
Hardly any chances fell the way of Wellington as Williams couldn't put the final piece of the puzzle for a Phoenix counter-attack midway through the first half.
SUBS
Max Burgess - 4
Burgess was brought on to spark something for Wellington but it was to no avail.
Michal Kopczynski - N/A
The Polish midfielder made his A-League debut off the bench.
Alex Rufer - N/A
Rufer had little time to make an impact.
