City’s homegrown striker Jamie Maclaren continued his excellent form when he opened the scoring by flicking a beautiful Scott Jamieson cross into the net to give his team the lead.

The Socceroos striker then doubled the lead after he scored from the spot, following Shane Lowry’s trailing arm being deemed an intentional touch.

After taking a deserved two goal lead, City put on the brakes and tried to hold their lead rather than extend it. City manager Warren Joyce was left to rue that tactical decision as his team conceded twice in the last 10 minutes of the match in what is surely two points dropped for Melbourne.

Melbourne City

Eugene Galekovic – 6.5

Galekovic had an excellent first half with a couple of crucial saves but it was followed by a poor second half as he failed to meet the cross for the first goal before misjudging the second.

Scott Jamieson – 8

Put in a delightful ball that pierced the Perth defence to find Maclaren which gave his team the lead and didn’t shirk from his responsibilities defensively, as he stopped a powerful Castro shot.

Iacopo La Rocca – 6

Didn’t close down Diego Castro quick enough in the dying minutes and gave the Spaniard enough time to launch from distance, which meant City gave up their two-goal lead.

Curtis Good – 6.5

Good had a solid game and was calm and composed with any balls that came his way.

Nathaniel Atkinson – 6.5

Atkinson was a great outlet for his team out wide but couldn’t pressure the box well enough when he got into advanced positions.

Kearyn Baccus – 7

Unusually for Baccus, he was not tasked with controlling and retaining possession but instead remaining compact as his team spent most of the game without the ball. Adapted to his new role well and offered composure with the ball as well.

Luke Brattan – 7.5

Brattan continued a good season for himself personally as a box-to-box midfielder. He offered threats in attack while remaining a presence in defence.

Rostyn Griffiths – 6.5

Passed the ball cleanly and held his line well to pressure the player with the ball, but he will be annoyed that he didn’t do more to stop either of the two goals in the lead-up.

Florin Berenguer – 6.5

Berenguer had an average game as he tracked back defensively but also showed some danger when going forward.

Jamie Maclaren – 9

Maclaren is not the man you want if you want to help build-up play but give him a sniff in the box and he’ll take it nine times out of ten. Two chances, two goals for the man who now has five in his past four games.

Shayon Harrison - 6

Dangerous at times but substituted on the 64th minute.

SUBS

Riley McGree – 6.5

Made a dangerous run through the field but didn’t have a clean enough touch to make a serious chance out of it.

Lachie Wales – 6

Came on for Berenguer but didn’t offer much of a threat for the time he was on.

Dylan Pierias – 6

Wasn’t on the pitch long enough to make an impact on the game.

Perth Glory

Liam Reddy – 6

There wasn’t much Reddy could do for either goal conceded as they were both more defensive errors than goalkeeping howlers.

Ivan Franjic – 6

Franjic gave Jamieson far too much space for the cross that lead to the first goal. He was slow off his mark and didn’t pressure his opposing full-back which proved costly for his team.

Shane Lowry – 5.5

Some might argue that Lowry was somewhat unlucky to have conceded a handball in the box, but he was at fault for leaving his hand out.

Matthew Spiranovic – 6

The Perth defence was as a whole quite disappointing in this match, though Spiranovic was probably the best performer out of the three centre-backs.

Dino Djulbic – 5.5

Djulbic was hasty when trying to play out from the back and it led to a few dicey moments where he put Reddy or his fellow defenders in awkward positions which could’ve been punished on another day.

Jason Davidson – 7

Davidson once again provided a dangerous attacking threat for his team as he was the man to put the cross in for Perth to get a goal back.

Neil Kilkenny – 6.5

Kilkenny had a quiet game as his distributed passes from all ends were lacking the killer ball that he usually provides.

Juande – 6

Juande was not able to help his defence withstand the first half pressure of Melbourne City and he needed to do a better job of protecting his centre-backs.

Chris Ikonomidis – 6

Ikonomidis wasn’t able to continue his great form in this match as he couldn’t get the final ball or shot right when he got into good positions.

Diego Castro – 6.5

The captain had an anonymous game until right at the end when he stepped up and scored from long-distance to equalise for Perth.

Andy Keogh – 5.5

Had more than enough chances to get his team back into the game but couldn’t make it count. He will be disappointed in himself and he was rightly brought off early for Brendon Santalab.

SUBS

Joel Chianese – 7

Fantastic headed equaliser and an all round impressive impact-sub performance.

Brendon Santalab – 6.5

Santalab had a few half-chances and snatched at his shots too quickly, but it’s good to see him getting in dangerous positions.

Jake Brimmer – 6

Brought on for Kilkenny, Brimmer was introduced too late to have a meaningful impact on the game.
