Victory had the last laugh in the derby, but City have the last laugh in the league. One earns bragging rights, the other final’s football.
It looked to be a sucker punch from Melbourne City when Aivi Luik gave them the lead on the 63rd minute, but Victory showed fighting spirit and attacking flair to score twice late and snatch the win.
Melina Ayres dragged Victory back into the contest with an incredible strike, but Christina Gibbons did the damage on the 86th from a Natasha Dowie assist.

Unfortunately for Victory, the win barely keeps them within contention. With three rounds remaining, City remain in third, while Victory are five points behind Canberra United in seventh.
