The Paris Saint-Germain winger scored his country's final goal in their 4-0 friendly win over Estonia at Le Mans but he barely celebrated, after the crowd had booed and whistled an at-times sloppy display.

"I was happy with the goal, but not so much with the whistles in the stadium," Menez told L'Equipe.

"Even if it's part of the game, it is necessary to get behind the France team. Misplaced passes - it happens."

Defender Philippe Mexes has been the subject of much concern within the French media in the run-up to the tournament, but Menez is in no doubt that the AC Milan defender will step up to the mark in their opening game in Group D against England on Monday.

"I'm not worried about him, as I know what he is capable of," the 25-year-old said of his former Roma team-mate.

"And they were only friendly matches. Great players, you always see them in big games. He will respond on Monday on the field.

"We will play without fear or pressure. For many of us, it'll be our first big competition. I'm really looking forward to the first game."
