“It has been surreal. I've been a little bit surprised by all the attention,” Middleby said at the Sydney recovery session at Bondi Beach.

“But to get a cuddle from David Beckham isn't too bad. If there's any guy you'd want to get a cuddle off, it's David Beckham. It's not too bad is it.

“I'm going to hear it from the boys for the rest of the week and season. I'll never live it down,” he added with a laugh.

“The boys are going to get hacked and go up and have a cuddle. I suppose in that circumstance with him, it wasn't too bad.”

Asked if he'd do the same with a Mariners player on Saturday night in the A-League, Middleby joked, “That's a bit different. I think David Beckham's a little better looking.”

FC skipper Tony Popovic also joked: “I think Middleby enjoyed that more [than Beckham]. We had a bit of a laugh about that after the game.”

Sydney is away to Central Coast on Saturday in an NSW A-League derby.
