AC Milan will appeal Zlatan Ibrahimovic's three-match ban for violent conduct despite the striker admitting he deserved his red card.
The Sweden international saw red in Sunday's goalless draw against Napoli for slapping Salvatore Aronica in the face.
Ibrahimovic received a three-match ban for the incident, a sanction which his club have said they will appeal in order for the striker to be available for key league clashes against title rivals Udinese and Juventus.
"AC Milan confirms that it will appeal the decision of the Sports Judge who has banned Zlatan Ibrahimovic for three rounds of competition," a statement on the club's official website read.
However, Ibrahimovic, who is Milan's top scorer with 15 goals this term, admitted he fully deserved to be sent off.
"I did a stupid thing," Ibrahimovic told Canale 5. "What happens, happens. I have to learn from my mistakes. I don't need the television cameras to know what I've done. I made a mistake."
Ibrahimovic believes that Massimiliano Allegri’s men have sufficient quality to cope in his absence though.
"I have confidence in the team," he said. "They will do well without me."
Ibrahimovic is eligible to play for Milan in Wednesday's Coppa Italia semi-final clash with his former club Juventus.
