The Rams have won only one match all season and are on course to go down as the worst side ever to play in the top tier of English football.

Sterjovski, 28, refuses to throw in the towel though, despite a clear gulf in class between the Pride Park outfit and the visiting Gunners.

He played as a striker in the last game against West Ham, as opposed to his more familiar wide role but he insists he is happy to do whatever job is asked of him.

He said: “Anyway I can help the team I’ll do it and it was good to play up front and I played there quite a while and I enjoyed it.

“Up front takes a bit of getting used to and I think I just need more and more games. If the gaffer wants to play me there, I can improve and do a lot better.

“It’s been like that in the past with various coaches and the national team as well. I can play a few different positions and it's useful for the gaffer.”

Sterjovski feels the Rams were unlucky to lose to West Ham last week, a match which saw Lucas Neill’s men booed off by the Upton Park faithful.

He said: “There's a few games that we could have got the three points but it just hasn’t happened. We’re dying to get that win and we’re dying to get past the 15 points.

“We played good football and at times I thought we played them off the park. Once again the result wasn’t there and that's the disappointing thing.”

Beating Arsenal looks a tall order but Sterjovski refuses to see the game as yet another inevitable defeat.

He said: “It could be the upset of the season. I’ve been saying that for quite a while but we’ll see what happens on Monday night.

“Of course, it would be nice to net one in any game but Arsenal are extra special and, hopefully, we'll get a result.”

Sterjovski has also revealed the part he played in helping Derby capture versatile Olyroo Ruben Zadkovich.

He said: “I think it’s great signing. He's a good young player and I think he’ll fit in with the players quite well. He’s a positive player and he’ll do really well at Derby.

“When he came here I explained to him what the club’s all about. It's a big club and it’s just unfortunate that the results haven’t gone our way this season. But I think it’s a good move.”
