MILE Sterjovski is convinced his World Cup prospects have been boosted by his training stint with English Premier League outfits Fulham and Blackburn Rovers.
The Perth Glory performer will return to Australia this weekend, just a couple of days before Socceroos coach Pim Verbeek reveals his provisional 27-man squad for the World Cup (later to be trimmed to 23).
"My chances are as good as any player outside the starting side," Sterjovski told the Illawara Mercury.
"It has definitely given me the best chance to make the squad. The only thing I can do is keep working hard and know I have done everything in my power.
"The rest is up to the coach."
Sterjovski was one of several Socceroo hopefuls who sought spells overseas to boost their chances of World Cup selection.
Sterjovski said he had relished training with Mark Schwarzer at Fulham and Brett Emerton and Vince Grella at Blackburn.
"Most of the squad is in the same situation I am. They are training at a high level, but not playing regular football so that's why I say I have a decent chance," Sterjovski said.
"It has been everything I needed. The intensity at training has been superb and the focus of the players makes training very enjoyable and beneficial.
"Being surrounded by quality international players makes training more difficult, which brings out the best in you."
Verbeek will reveal his initial 27 in Sydney next Tuesday.
