FORMER Newcastle Jets skipper Ljubo Milicevic has begun his search for a European club after arriving at Swiss Super League champions FC Basel for a 10-day trial with the club.
Milicevic, 29, is a free agent after he left the Jets earlier this month in controversial circumstances to chase a contract in Europe.
Basel announced on their website the Australian defender will spend 10 days training with the first-team, which includes ex-Socceroo Scott Chipperfield, with the view to securing a permanent deal.
The six-time Socceroos defender spent six years earlier in his career in Switzerland with a number of clubs including FC Zurich, FC Thun and Young Boys, along with a brief loan spell at Basel.
Milicevic has a good reputation in Switzerland after helping tiny FC Thun qualify for the UEFA Champions League for the first and only time ever in 2005.
Melbourne-born Milicevic could potentially be seen as a replacement for Ghanaian defender Samuel Inkoom who Basel sold to Ukrainian club Dnipro earlier in the week.
