The Mariners are on the hunt for a new head coach after Paul Okon stunningly walked out of the club on Tuesday.

Miller is one of a number of Australian coaches to have been linked to the role, including former Adelaide United boss Aurelio Vidmar and Melbourne City assistant Michael Valkanis.

The 35-year-old spent the 2015/16 season with the Jets, but exited the club in September 2016.

Under his tenure Newcastle won eight, drew six and lost 15 matches of the 29 games he was in charge, finishing eighth on the A-League table.

In 2017 Miller served as an assistant coach with Danish club Aalborg BK, and since January he has been working for Fox Sports as a pundit.

He told FourFourTwo he is looking for a head coaching position, and admits the Mariners gig has piqued his interest.

Miller believes the challenge facing Central Coast is similar to that of Newcastle when joined the Jets.

“I am interested in understanding the profile of Head Coach the football club is seeking most certainly, and you are right, not only with A League experience, my specific experience was to stabilise and improve the foundations, in which we achieved with great success in Newcastle,” he said.

“This challenge appears to be similar.”
