While Frank Farina's men have been consistent in reaching successive preliminary finals, the former Rangers man wants more than that.

He is determined to go one better this season and he's raring to get get started.   Miller arrived in Australia a year ago with plenty of people questioning whether he could adapt to the conditions and while injury disrupted his season he certainly did enough to prove his critics wrong and earn the accolades of his peers.

He is battling injury again to try to make the opening fixture against Gold Coast United but is confident that once the whistle blows Roar's poor pre-season form will be forgotten.

"I'm really looking forward to the season and it's great that Gold Coast have come in. You need derbies and the spice that they bring," Miller told au.fourfourtwo.com.

"Gold Coast is going to be a great club. I don't know Miron or Clive Palmer personally but they've done the right thing, they've got the the club up and going, spent wisely and got some good players."

Miller and his colleagues endured a slow start to last season and he knows Roar need to come flying out of the blocks this time. And once the regular season is over, there is a steely determination to push on further.

"It's just not good enough (simply reaching a preliminary final)," he said. "If you want to be happy getting beaten in semi-finals every year then you may as well go and take up another sport.

"The likes of me, Craig, Danny Tiatto we're getting a wee bit older we want to win titles."

As for those who questioned his ability to cope with a hot afternoon in Brisbane and joked about his frame, Miller likes to think he answered the doubters on the pitch.

He added: "I just take it with a pinch of salt. I may not be a Matt McKay or Mass Murdocca who can run all day but I can certainly play football and I love playing football.

"I'm happy here, I love it here. There are some people who have said bad things about me but they've put their hands up and said 'maybe I was wrong'. That's life."
