Olyroo skipper Milligan claims he had told FFA officials he would be missing the Townsville training camp but would join them on the Malaysia tour next week.

However FFA officials claimed they had no idea where he was or what his plans were and had named him in the squad for the Townsville workout.

"He didn't turn up for camp today as he was requested and team management wants to talk to Mark regarding the reasons why," an FFA spokesman said.

"We're basically waiting now for Mark to get in touch with the team management before we make any more statements."

Milligan, 22, is understood to have been in the UK for the past month while he tries to find a new club in Europe after leaving Sydney FC at the end of last season.

There was fevered speculation last night that he had been at Arsenal but his agent insisted that was just one club in a series of names that had been put to him.

He told au.fourfourtwo.com:"No decisions have been made."

Milligan went AWOL from Sydney at the start of last season when he flew to France in a bid to join Metz, but the deal fell through when Milligan was to be played out of position at right back as injury cover.

He returned to the club and had a rollercoaster season with the club while impressing with the national team - and set his sights on a move to Europe this year.

His failure to appear for training however will go down badly with the Australia hierarchy.

When Stuart Musialik missed an Olyroos training camp in Sydney after the Jets grand final win, Socceroos coach Pim Verbeek said it was a greater offence than Danny Vukovic's slap of referee Mark Shield.

Musialik was then dropped from the squad that went to the US to play Mexico but has since been re-admitted to the side.

Milligan has a new agent, Tom Brookes, after his Metz debacle, and last night he insisted Olyroos coaching staff knew he would not be at the Townsville camp.

Brookes is also currently in the UK and is flying home this weekend, while Milligan is understood to have left on Thursday night to face the music with the FFA.

"Mark was scheduled to be at a pre-tour training camp this week but due to the circumstances wasn't able to attend and they have been aware of that," Brookes told AAP.

"They have a tour to Malaysia which Mark intends to be part of at the end of next week. We're in discussions with the FFA at the moment as to where we go from here.

"We've had dialogue with the coaching staff but we've requested the FFA to look into the situation when we get back."

He added: "All I can say is that Mark has had interest from several clubs in Europe.

"We're in a situation where we're just trying to establish which of those interested clubs are able to put forward a package that is acceptable to the player.

"Mark wants this sorted as soon as possible because he's got the Olympics this year and he wants to focus on those without a decision like this hanging over him."

Last night Arsenal refused to get involved in the row.

A spokeswoman told au.fourfourtwo.com: "As a club we do not comment on speculation. As and when a player joins or leaves the club, we make an announcement accordingly."
