Milligan, who turns 32 in August, is out of contract with Bani Yas at the end of the season, after leaving Melbourne Victory for the UAE club on a two-year deal in 2015.

Bani Yas appear destined for relegation from the UAE top flight this term, with Milligan’s agent Buddy Farah indicating the situation would lead to a move.

Farah said the 2018 World Cup would be a crucial factor for Milligan’s next move.

“He will be on the open market for the first time in a very long time,” Farah told FourFourTwo.

“We will monitor it very closely and choose the best opportunity that gets him in the best shape possible for the World Cup next year.”

Milligan has never played in Europe during his 15-year professional career, although he was linked with Crystal Palace in 2013.

He trialled with several European clubs including Arsenal and Werder Bremen in 2008 but was unable to secure a contract due to work permit and visa issues.

The 53-time Socceroo has played a crucial role in Australia’s 2018 World Cup qualifying campaign so far, playing in both midfield and defence.

Milligan was a stand-out in midfield during Australia’s 1-0 win away to UAE in September with skipper Mile Jedinak sidelined.
