Tomorrow, the Socceroo squad is announced. In December, Milligan would've been a sure selection for a home based national team, but rivals for selection Adam Griffiths, Andrew Durante, Matt Thompson and Kevin Muscat have performed well at A-League level and in camp with Verbeek.

And after some howlers in front of Verbeek in recent weeks in the A-League, the Olyroo captain is now battling to make the squad.

“Of late, I've just sort of been concentrating on myself and getting myself back in the starting XI at Sydney more so than trying to impress Pim,” Milligan said after Socceroo training today.

“I've just been concentrating on getting myself fit again, more than trying to impress I think.

“It hasn't been the greatest month for myself ... I haven't been at my best although the team [Sydney] has been doing well.”

Milligan added he felt he needed one more week of training to get back to full fitness after a toe injury in the last few weeks has affected his performances.

He added: “I've had two training sessions with Pim and hopefully he saw enough on the weekend for myself to be included. But I'm not sure... I'm hopeful.”

Looking ahead to Friday night's finals blockbuster in Sydney against Queensland, and Miligan said that even if the side did not win, they could still win the tie.

“We've travelled well all year and we seem to go to that next level away from home. But it does make it a little more difficult," he said.

“But I don't think it's the be all and end all if we don't win at home.”
