Milligan was the runaway winner, having outclassed some of his big-name team mates.

While he did not play against either Oman or Iraq, Milligan was a standout in the Socceroos 4-0 win over Thailand and performed equally well in the hard-fought loss to Japan.

With 24 per cent, Milligan easily won the poll. Brett Emerton was voted second best with 17 per cent with captain Mark Viduka in third with 11 per cent.

Milligan’s form has led him to his highly-publicised European adventure where he has left Australia to trial with French side Metz – against the wishes of his club Sydney FC. While he is expected to report back to Sydney FC training this week, it is widely understood he is keen to secure a deal in Europe.

Big name stars Vinnie Grella, Lucas Neill and Mark Bresciano attracted few votes - barely registering on the chart.
