Saints are the only non-Bank of Scotland Premier League outfit left in the competition but Celtic will face stiff competition against a side who have already disposed of SPL opposition in the shape of Falkirk and Motherwell.

Hibernian and Dunfermline meet in the other last-four tie, which also takes place at Hampden in April.

The Edinburgh club will be favourites to progress to the final but Dunfermline have also claimed some impressive scalps to reach the latter stages.

They sent Rangers crashing out of the competition, before defeating holders Hearts.

Scotland manager Alex McLeish believes both semi-finals have the potential for cup upsets.

St Johnstone have already defeated Rangers in the CIS Insurance Cup this season and McLeish insists they will fancy their chances against the other half of the Old Firm.

He told BBC Scotland: "They have beaten Rangers this season and will say why can't they beat Celtic.

"Owen Coyle has done a marvellous job at St Johnstone and there is no reason why they can't get to the Tennent's Scottish Cup final.

"But, of course, Celtic, will be the firm favourites."

Of the other tie, McLeish added: "On paper, I suppose Hibs are the favourites.

"But Dunfermline have had a fantastic cup run, when you consider they have beaten Rangers and Hearts and have taken care of Partick Thistle in the last round.

"There is every chance of an upset but Hibs have had a great season as well."

Hibernian were delighted to avoid Celtic in tonight's draw.

The CIS Insurance Cup finalists are hoping for a trophy double and a place in Europe next season, and manager John Collins said: "It is I think a terrific draw for us and we are very much looking forward to the semi-final next month."

Collins told www.hibernianfc.co.uk the Easter Road side would not underestimate Dunfermline, even though the Pars are firmly rooted to the bottom of the SPL table and firm favourites for relegation.

"Dunfermline are a side we know have been struggling a bit in the league this season, but they have lifted themselves in the Scottish Cup and produced some excellent results, including putting both Rangers and Hearts out of the competition," said Collins.

"We know this will be no easy task but if we play as well as we know we can then there is no reason why we should not be contesting another cup final at the end of the season."
