Only two points separate the sides and with just five games to go, the outcome of the match could  have a significant impact on the fate of both clubs as the race for the title gathers pace.

Looking ahead to the game Bleiberg said last night's result had opened up the title race and his side was now very much in the mix.

"Obviously, I'm very pleased with the result of our game against Newcastle and I hope there aren't too many people who are disappointed that we've now made the race for the title a three-horse race instead of a two-horse race," Bleiberg said.

"I was relatively happy with the way we finished the game on Wednesday night because we were in cruise control which gives us the best chance of being as fresh as possible for the Sydney game on Sunday.

"Apart from Charlie Miller who has a cork on his thigh, we don't have any injuries from the (Newcastle) game so we can take a strong squad with us to Sydney."

Gold Coast have fared well against Sydney so far this season and the Gold Coast boss will head to the Sydney Football Stadium with a positive approach.

"We are looking forward to the game on Sunday and will be going to Sydney looking for all three points," he said.

"Right from day one we have said that we wanted to be competitive and have a successful first season; that's not arrogance, it's just ambition.

"Our current position on the ladder suggests that come the end of the season, we will be up there challenging for the title and that's what we've aimed for."

However Bleiberg is stressing that being in the mix at this stage is not enough. There is more hard work ahead.

He added: "The players have done exceptionally well and they should be proud of what they have done so far, but the job is far from finished yet and our aim is to complete what we set out to do."
