PAUL Reid will be able to bask in 'mission accomplished' tonight as he completes a journey that began unhappily in blue and white, brightened up with a splash of red and ends in green and gold.
This time last year Reid was not having the best of fortunes in the blue and white of English third-tier club Brighton and Hove Albion.
He decided to head for home and join Adelaide United, a move he hoped would lead to international honours.
After a terrific season for the Reds, Reid should get his chance to impress for the Socceroos in Jakarta this evening.
He told the Advertiser: "That was what I was striving for. I came back here to get into the Socceroos. I am more than happy."
Reid admits it had crossed his mind that the chance of international football may have passed him by but now he's determined to seize his chance.
The players will step out into a cauldron of noise tonight but Reid is confident it won't be the Socceroos undoing.
He said: "Playing in front of 90,000 excitable fans is going to be a real experience but I am sure the guys will cope well with it."
