Melbourne Victory have confirmed that winger Mitch Austin is expected to miss the rest of the season after rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament.
The injury occurred during Friday’s training session on Gosch’s Paddock, with scans later revealing the full extent of the damage to his right knee.
Austin and the club's medical staff will consult surgeons early next week.
The 26-year-old made a bright start to his second season at Victory, with five appearances and a late equaliser away to Adelaide United in a 2-all draw in Round 3.
It's another blow for Victory who are still chasing their first win after six rounds, and were momentarily dumped to the bottom of the table last night following Brisbane Roar's 3-1 win over Melbourne City and Suncorp.
With Austin now on the long-term injury list the club will consider the possibility of signing an injury replacement for the remainder of the campaign.
