Nichols is just back from the Under-19 Asian Cup where he helped book Australia’s place in the Under-20 World Cup next year.

The midfielder joined Tommy Oar, Luke DeVere, Isaka Cernak and Tahj Minniecon at training with Roar this morning after nearly a month in the Middle East with the Young Socceroos.

Nichols will be hoping his performances caught the eye of coach Frank Farina ahead of Sunday’s clash with Perth at Suncorp Stadium.

He said: “We’ll see how the week goes and hopefully I’m in the mix.

“We (Roar) won the last two out of three games so there’s no need for a drastic change but if the gaffer feels like he needs some fresh players, we’re ready to play.

“We’re all fit and have come back with some confidence so hopefully we can go out there and get a game.”

Nichols scored two spectacular goals in the quarter-final to beat North Korea 2-1 before they fell to eventual champions the United Arab Emirates in the semi-finals of the tournament.

Despite the loss, Nichols was delighted to qualify for next year’s U20 World Cup in Egypt.

He said: “We went there pretty confident that we could qualify and go on to win it. That didn’t work out but we qualified for the World Cup so that was a pretty good experience.

“We wanted to celebrate but couldn’t in Saudi Arabia.

“It’ll be a good experience to go to the World Cup and play against all the best players our age in the world. That’ll be another experience to learn from.”

Nichols said that it was great to have so many Roar youngsters involved in the national setup.

“It’s really good for the club to see that we’re all in the Under-20s team and playing a big part of that team,” he said. “It just says that the club’s got some good talent coming through.”

Queensland Roar will play Perth Glory at Suncorp Stadium on Sunday at 5pm. A National Youth League curtain-raiser between the two clubs will kick off at 2.15pm.
