ROBBIE Kruse’s Fortuna Dusseldorf suffered relegation from the German Bundesliga on Saturday, while Carl Valeri’s Sassuolo clinched promotion to Serie A.
Kruse, who will join Bayer Leverkusen next season, was a 68th minute substitute as Fortuna went down 3-0 to Hannover 96, allowing Hoffenheim and Augsburg – who both won elsewhere - to leapfrog them on the final day sending them back to the 2.Bundesliga.
Meanwhile in Italy’s Serie B, Carl Valeri was absent due to injury as Sassuolo secured promotion with a 1-0 victory over contenders Livorno 1-0 on Saturday. The triumph also meant Sassuolo were crowned Serie B champions.
James Holland put in a full shift as Austria Wien moved within a point of the Austrian Bundesliga title after a 3-1 win over Wiener Neustadt on Saturday.
The Violets are six points clear of second-placed Red Bull Salzburg with two games to play.
Kerem Bulut was a 62nd minute substitute as Akhisar Belediyespor ensured safety with a 2-0 win away to Orduspor in Turkey’s Super Lig in the final round of the season on Saturday.
