The 28-year-old spent the second half of the 2012-13 season at Schalke, scoring two goals and providing five assists in 16 Bundesliga appearances.

He joined Kiev after suffering relegation from the Bundesliga for a second time with Hertha Berlin in 2012, but failed to establish himself within the first-team set-up at the Ukrainian club.

The Brazilian returns to Germany after making just 13 appearances for Oleg Blokhin's side.

A statement on the club's official website read: "Subject to the scheduled sports medical examinations next Monday, Borussia Moenchengladbach will undertake winger Raffael from Dynamo Kiev. The 28-year-old Brazilian is at the club to agree a deal till June 2017."

The move sees Raffael join up with former boss Lucien Favre, who managed him at FC Zurich and Hertha.

"I owe a lot to him (Favre)," Raffael said.

"He supported me in Zurich and later brought me to Berlin. This confidence I would like to repay."

Moenchengladbach sporting director Max Eberl feels the signing will give Favre's team a new dimension going forward.

"In Raffael we get another versatile and technically strong player for our attack," Eberl said.

"This transfer was not easy to achieve, so we are delighted that it has now worked out."
