The Queensland Roar skipper said he was “delighted” to be selected in Pim Verbeek’s 35-man squad and hoped to survive the final cut for the match in Brisbane on October 15.

“It’s a nice reward for the way things have gone maybe in the last couple of games,” the 32-year-old said.

“Whether or not I’m there at the end and playing against Qatar I don’t know, but I’ll go in there and do my best.

“We’ve still got a domestic game to go before then so I’m not really looking too far ahead to be honest.”

Moore said this weekend’s clash with second-placed Sydney FC was “massive” for the team.

“For me these are the games you want to play in, where people are excited about it, you’ve got the whole State of Origin type of thing,” he said.

“We don’t like them, they don’t like us, that’s great, that’s a good game.

“Our away form has been good so hopefully we can continue and we can get another good result to then put us in a good position.”

The former Rangers captain said it was important the team backed up their impressive win in Melbourne on Sunday.

“The situation’s the same again this weekend against Sydney. It’d be nice to pick up all three points again and that’s exactly the way we’ll go down there and play to try and win the game.

With Luke DeVere (Australian Under-20s), Josh McCloughan (injured) and Ben Griffin (suspended) unavailable this weekend, Moore said whoever partnered him in defence would know what was expected.

“Any of the boys who come in, whether it be Matt Mundy, whether it be David Dodd, these boys are working every single day with the first-team squad,” he said.

“They know their roles, if that opportunity presents itself, it’s always then up to them to see how they perform on the big stage but I’m sure they’d all love that opportunity.
