Mooy struck in the 23rd minute and added an 89th minute penalty as Town grabbed all three points, ending a long run of away defeats.

Elias Kachunga got the ball rolling for the Terriers after just six minutes, before Collin Quaner's cross hit Mooy and went in to make it 2-0.

Things got harder for Watford when Troy Deeney was sent off for a lunge on Quaner in the 33rd minute.

In the second half Laurent Depoitre made it 3-0 and then Huddersfield captain Jonathan Hogg was given his marching orders, after collecting his second yellow card, leaving both sides with 10 men.

The Hornets pulled a goal back in the 68th minute with Abdoulaye Doucoure's volley.

But the Australian midfielder's second, after Depoitre was brought down in the box, ensured the west Yorkshire finished as victors.

During the game Mooy made 43 passes and touched the ball 65 times, more than any of his teammates.

The double strike takes his goals tally up to four from 17 appearances in his maiden Premier League campaign.

Huddersfield Town manager David Wagner was pleased with his team's display.

"The players performed to their best," he said.

"Watford have problems at the minute with suspensions and injuries. They are a top team - but we were good as well. We always had the feeling this was just around the corner.

"We are in the race [to stay up]. Nobody thought we would be. This is what makes us happy. It is only nearly the middle of the season, nothing more. You need 12 wins I believe to stay up - we have six."
