Favoured by many to be relegated from the Championship this year, Huddersfield proved the critics wrong after reaching the playoffs and then knocking off Reading on penalties at Wembley.

Mooy scored a penalty in the shootout victory that sent the Terriers up to the Premier League for the first time in the competition's history.

“Apart from my baby’s birth and getting married, this is the best day,” an emotional Mooy said.

"It’s been a big few weeks but it’s all worth it. It’s crazy. It’s just been a rollercoaster, so many ups and downs, but it’s all worth it. Everything’s worth it, this day. Lots of players don’t get to play at Wembley, so coming today is something very special.

"But to win and get a team promoted to the Premier League and be part of it is amazing. It’s unbelievable.”

Mooy draped himself in the Australian flag after Huddersfield's dramatic win.

"I’m very proud," the 26-year old said.

"I don’t think many Australian players [have won at Wembley], I know Mile’s [Jedinak] done it, a few others, But I’m just so proud to be an Australian so I have to grab the flag."

Mooy's future remains uncertain with his loan spell from Manchester City finishing. A number of Premier League clubs, including Southampton and Brighton, have been linked to the Socceroo.

Terriers manager David Wagner told the media after the playoff final that he wants to keep the former Western Sydney and Melbourne City man at his club.

“I’m not really thinking about that right now,” Mooy said.

“It’s obviously been an unbelievable season I’m so happy to have been part of this team. But it’s not all my decision. There’s Man City involved, I have to speak to them and my manager.

"People from Man City are in touch with me and see how I am going and tell me how I am going. It’s not in my hands, I’ll just try my best. That’s what I always do.

"Everything else is not in my control.”
