Since his move from Melbourne City to Huddersfield at the beginning of the 2016-17 campaign Mooy's performances have lit up English football.

Mooy’s first season in England showcased what every A-League fan already knew - that the Australian National team midfielder was a class act.

The Socceroo’s star’s performances for Huddersfield in the English Football League Championship inspired the club's push towards promotion to the English Premier League (EPL) for the first time in its 109-year history.

Huddersfield Town fans voted Mooy as the club's best player and after initially signing with the Terries on loan, Mooy’s form earnt him a permanent deal worth a reported transfer fee of over £8 million.

Mooy’s made a blistering start to his EPL campaign with two assists in his debut in the win over Crystal Palace and then he scored the winning goal the following week against Newcastle United.

The Terriers midfielder said playing in England’s top flight had helped him to develop his game even further.

“Playing under more pressure and playing against better players these sorts of things can only make you a better player,” he said.

The Socceroo said the expectations of playing in the EPL is not too dissimilar to Australia’s World Cup qualifying campaign.

“That’s one thing that obviously helps you with the pressure,” he said. “Every game there’s lots of pressure, the club is looking to stay up and get lots of points, there are lots of people watching but once you start playing that stuff becomes irrelevant.

"You just start playing football and hopefully I can help the national team as much as I can."

Meanwhile, Mooy revealed that while the Socceroos were content with progressing past Syria to the inter-confederation play-off against Honduras, the midfielder believed the Australians still have room to improve.

“We’ve just got to try and be a bit more clinical and take our opportunities it can make a big difference to our team’s confidence,” he said.

“But we hung in there and we won the game and Timmy came up with some special moments.

“We are not over the top happy but we are glad we got the job done and we did it the hard way but we still got it done and we have a big opportunity now to go to a World Cup.

“It’s obviously going to be difficult in the next round so we just go back to our clubs and get on with our lives and it will come round soon.”
