Mooy scored the only goal of the game on Sunday as Huddersfield secured a 1-0 win over Newcastle United at home.

It was their first ever Premier League goal at John Smith's Stadium, and made it two wins from two to start the 2017/18 season.

Wagner said securing Socceroos midfielder Mooy on a permanent deal in the off-season was one of the club's highest priorities ahead of their first ever Premier League campaign.

"He was one of our priorities after promotion," said Wagner.

"We signed him very early and as we started planning in the play-offs he always gave us the impression he would be willing to sign. He likes the club and the dressing room."

On Mooy's man-of-the-match performance against Newcastle, Wagner added: "Aaron doesn't say much or smile a lot but he is very happy and proud.

"He deserves all the credit for the goal but also for his performance. He has great technical ability and defensive qualities. He is very unusual and that's why I like this player."
